Who We Are

Fighting for Justice Since Day One

The Maricopa County West Valley NAACP is a chapter of the nation's oldest and most powerful civil rights organization — rooted in community, driven by purpose.

Our Mission

The Mission That Guides Us

"The mission of the WV-NAACP is to secure political, educational, social, and economic equality."

— NAACP Mission Statement

The West Valley chapter of the Maricopa County NAACP carries this mission into every neighborhood, every school board meeting, every city council chamber, and every courtroom in our region. We are not observers — we are advocates, organizers, and fighters.

We believe that justice is not a destination but a daily practice. Our chapter works to dismantle systemic barriers, amplify marginalized voices, and build a West Valley where every resident — regardless of race, background, or zip code — has an equal opportunity to thrive.

What We Stand For

Our Core Values

Justice

We pursue justice in every arena — legal, economic, educational, and social — without compromise or delay.

Equity

We fight for equal access, equal opportunity, and equal treatment for every resident of the West Valley.

Community

We are of this community. We organize, listen, and act alongside the people we serve.

Accountability

We hold institutions, elected officials, and systems accountable to the people they are meant to serve.

Empowerment

We equip community members with the knowledge, resources, and connections to advocate for themselves.

Unity

We believe that collective action — organized, sustained, and principled — is the engine of lasting change.

Our Story

Rooted in the West Valley

The Maricopa County West Valley NAACP chapter was established to serve the rapidly growing communities of the West Valley — including Avondale, Goodyear, Surprise, Buckeye, Tolleson, and surrounding areas. As these communities grew, so did the need for a dedicated civil rights presence.

From voter registration drives to educational equity advocacy, from police accountability work to economic empowerment programs, our chapter has stood at the forefront of justice in the West Valley. We are part of a national movement with deep local roots.

Part of Something Larger

A Chapter of the National NAACP

Founded in 1909, the NAACP is the nation's oldest, largest, and most widely recognized civil rights organization. With more than 2,200 units and branches across the country, the NAACP has been at the forefront of every major civil rights advance in American history — from the legal battles that ended school segregation to the legislative fights that secured voting rights.
